Material properties

The following is the data for our most common types of rubber.

CR (Chloroprene)

CR (Chloroprene) is also known under the trade name Neoprene. The properties of CR (chloroprene) are relatively good resistance to ozone, weather, chemicals and ageing. The material also has good non-inflammability, good mechanical properties and good flexibility at low temperatures. The service temperature range of CR (chloroprene) is from -40°C to +100°C / -40°F to +446°F (short-term up to +120°C / +248°F).

CR (Chloroprene) is mainly used in applications with refrigerants, outdoor applications and in the glue industry.

NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber)

The properties of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR or nitrile rubber) are largely dependent on the amount of acrylonitrile (ACN) it contains, which can range from 18% to 50%. In general, NBR (nitrile rubber) has good mechanical properties. The service temperature range of NBR (nitrile rubber) is from -30°C to +100°C / -22°F to +212°F (short-term up to +120°C / +248°F).

NBR (nitrile) is mainly used in applications with mineral oil and greases.

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber)

EPDM has good resistance to heat, ozone and ageing. In addition, EPDM exhibits high levels of elasticity, good properties at low temperature  and good insulating properties. The service temperature range of EPDM is from -45°C to +150°C/ -49°F to +302°F (short-term up to +175°C/ +347°F).

EPDM is often used in applications with brake fluid (based on glycol) and hot water.

VMQ (Silicone)

Silicone has excellent resistance to high temperatures, good flexibility at low temperatures, good electrical properties and excellent resistance to weather, ozone and UV radiation. The service temperature range for VMQ (Silicone) is from -60°C to +200°C / -76°F to +392°F (short-term up to +230°C/ +446°F).

VMQ (Silicone) is often used in applications that produce some kind of food.

FKM (Viton®)

FKM’s main properties are its low gas permeability, its excellent resistance to ozone, weather and ageing, and that is non-inflammable. The service temperature range of FKM (Viton®) is from -20°C to +200°C/ -4°F to +392°F.

FKM (Viton®) is often used in applications with mineral oils and fats at high temperatures.
